Hammerheads Make ATL Debut
DECEMBER 2006
Over the past two months, ASA has put into action plans to increase staffing, bring in more equipment and implement new technology to help improve performance at ATL and across the ASA system. Yesterday, the regional airline delivered again.
The first two of 104 ASA baggage and Lektro push-back tugs were fitted with state-of-the-art wireless computers, also known as Hammerheads. The laptop-sized monitors are linked to the Delta Technology network to provide ATL bag drivers with real-time flight, gate, arrival and departure information at the touch of a button.
“I can’t tell you how huge this is,” said Anthony DiNota, vice president – Atlanta Airport Customer Service. “This technology really empowers our people to do their jobs more easily and accurately thanks to the constantly updated information the Hammerheads provide. Not only will our people know instantly where any given flight has moved after something like a gate swap, but our entire Atlanta operation will be operating a single, standard time clock instead of relying on wrist watches and sheets of paper to determine when a flight needs to push back.”
By putting Hammerheads on Lektro push-back tugs, ASA ramp agents and even vendors will have access to current flight, gate, departure and arrival information, too. By mid-January, all ATL baggage and Lektro tugs are scheduled to be fitted with the Hammerhead technology.
