Rugged Avionics Processor
The DRS Tactical Systems Avionics Processor (DAP) consists of a fully sealed, ATR short enclosure. The enclosure has space for a 7 slot 3U cPCI backplane, which can be configured as single or split backplane architecture. Forced air cooling, provided by a front mounted fan system, is fitted and the use of industry standard (COTS), conduction cooled 3U cPCI processor, interface and other expansion cards allows the construction of a variety of hardware hosts for avionics applications. Mission data systems, tactical data link controllers, graphics processing and distribution are typical target applications.
The rigid mechanical construction means that the DAP can be hard-mounted into wide bodied aircraft, in more demanding environments the use of tuned mountings allows use on other fixed wing as well as rotary wing platforms.
Built in Test facilities give visual warning of malfunction and the internal environment of the DAP is continuously monitored to ensure optimum operating conditions for the COTS cards.
The ability to split the backplane (typically 5/2 or 4/3) gives extra flexibility to the system designer and the standard power supply is dimensioned to provide support for fully loaded system. |
