DRS Technologies Receives $8.5 Million Contract to Provide The United States Air Force with Military Rugged Tablet Computers

PARSIPPANY, N.J. -- October, 2007 -- DRS Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: DRS) announced today that it received an $8.5 million contract from the Crane Division, U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indiana, on behalf of the United States Air Force (USAF) at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts. DRS will provide military rugged tablet (MRT) computers to support the U.S. Air Force's Tactical Air Control Party Modernization (TACP-M) Program. The MRTs will be used by dismounted airmen and inside their Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles.

The work for this contract will be performed by the company's DRS Tactical Systems business unit in Melbourne, Florida. The unit will begin delivering the MRTs March 2008.

This contract is the second DRS has received for MRTs in support of the TACP-M program, and the first DRS has received from the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center's Crane Division on behalf of the Air Force. The first contact was for $3 million and to date, the total value of the contracts is approximately $11.5 million.

DRS' lightweight MRT features either a rotating or solid state hard drive, milled aluminum housing, a 10.4-inch display in either pen or touch screen format, and a Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module Global Positioning System. The MRT is designed to military standards and resistant to extreme environments. The MRT for the TACP-M program will feature a PCIDM® (personal computer improved data modem) communications card which allows it to interface with military radios.

"This second contract for the Air Force helps position DRS as a preeminent supplier of rugged computer systems for the U.S. military's close air support units. Our MRT is also used by Marine Corps close air support units as part of their Target Location Designation Handoff System (TLDHS) Program," said Michael J. Sheehan, president of DRS' Tactical Computing strategic business unit.

DRS Tactical Systems is a global leader in ultra rugged, commercial-off-the-shelf-based computers, displays & embedded workstations, handheld devices, tablet computers, and integrated peripheral products. The unit's products have been incorporated into the U.S. Army's Force XXI Battle Command, Brigade and Below program, and the Common Hardware/Software II and III program, the U.S. Marine Corps' TLDHS program and the United Kingdom's BOWMAN integrated battlefield communications system program.
